Open letter to President Buhari on appointment of new VC for FU Wukari

I wish to draw your attention to the marginalisation of Taraba indigenes  who applied for the vacant position of Vice Chancellor at Federal University Wukari

I wish to draw your attention to the marginalisation of Taraba indigenes  who applied for the vacant position of Vice Chancellor at Federal University Wukari being perpetrated by some of your political appointees.

Mr. President, the position of the Vice Chancellor of FU-Wukari, Taraba State, was recently advertised and over 10 candidates have since applied for the job.

Out of these applicant’s, one is a distinguished professor from Wukari, with excellent academic profiles and years of cognate experience in the academia and administration.

It’s pertinent to stress that Professor Dalhatu Umaru Sangari  from Wukari is a renowned expert in his field and possess the requisite experience in leadership, policymaking, management,  accountability, and global networking.  These qualities should have been enough for him to be considered for appointment as the next VC of the university but this does not appear to be the case due to the activities of the current VC and the head of the screening committee.

Indeed, there are serious allegations that the VC, Professor Kundiri, has conspired to disqualify Professor Dalhatu Sangari in order to enthrone a puppet as the next vice chancellor.

We do not believe the search for the VC is following due process.  Why will the process of selecting a position of public trust be held in secrecy? Why are the VC and the search committee yet to publish the list of candidates, even after missing many deadlines?

Mr. President, it is very unfortunate that Taraba people, especially the people of Wukari (the host community) are not just a minority in their own home, but many qualified Tarabans have been denied appointment while their children are denied admission  even with more than required JAMB scores.

What happens to the catchment zone, and advantages enjoyed by host communities?
