Youths trained on local tricycle production

The National Automotive Design and Development Council and Simba TVS, have partnered to train youths on the production of tricycles, popularly called ‘Keke’.

Simba is a brand of three-wheelers (tricycles) in Nigeria.

Receiving a tricycle from Simba TVS on Tuesday in Abuja, the Director General of NADDC, Jelani Aliyu, said the training has added a lot of value to the automotive industry as well as in addressing youth unemployment.

“Three-wheelers are an integral part of transportation in Nigeria. You can transport people and goods with them. It’s something we are very happy in doing,’ he said.

Aliyu said most tricycles used in Nigeria are locally assembled and that local content in production has also increased significantly over the years.

He said increased local content, domestic assemblage and transportation business using tricycles have created jobs for young Nigerians.

The Regional Business Head of Simba TVS, Kamlesh Piralee, said the firm would further partner with NADDC to use its training institute for youth empowerment.

“We do not only sell, we train the youths and give certificates to the technicians. They can get opportunities in the automatic sector,” he said.
