Gombe State government and members of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have engaged in hot exchange of words over non-functional traffic streetlights in the state capital.
Residents of Gombe metropolis have been complaining for months over the dysfunctional traffic and streetlights. This, according to them, is responsible for the increasing accidents on the roads and petty crimes, especially in the evenings.

PDP said during the administration of former Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, major roads in Gombe metropolis had functional streetlights.
However, Sulaiman Musa, Senior Special Assistant on New Media to the governor took to the social media, saying the governor was focusing on the transformation of the rural areas in the state.
Responding, the state’s PDP Public Relations Officer II, Khalid Mu’azu Izala, said the failure to make the streetlights functional was one of the failures of the APC-led administration in the state.
