Council of Ulama disburses N2.5m zakat

The Kogi State Council of Ulama has disbursed N2.5 million to 63 beneficiaries.

The council’s zakat and endowment committee disbursed the money to three beneficiaries from the 21 local government areas in the state yesterday.

In his brief lecture on the importance of zakat, Justice Musa l. Ohu said that zakat is one of the pillars of Islam and different from sadaka.

He said sadaka is purely for the poor, adding that any person can be a beneficiary of zakat provided such a person was proven to be in need of it and has satisfied one of the conditions spelt out in the Qur’an.

The occasion which held at the Kutepa Juma’at Mosque, Lokoja, was attended by the Ohimege Iguh Kotonkarfe, Abdulrasak  Isah Koto, and Islamic scholars within the state.
