Bauchi gov’t holds prayers for Balewa, to rehabilitate tomb

Special prayers were offered for late Nigeria’s Prime Minister, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, during an annual memorial lecture held in his honour on Friday in Bauchi.

The Bauchi State government said plans have been concluded to rehabilitate the tomb and complex housing the remains of the late Prime Minister, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa in the state.

State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr Asma’u Ahmed Giade, who disclosed this during the annual memorial lecture and prayers organised by the state government, noted that the complex was neglected for decades by past governments.

He said the present administration has set a plan in motion to renovate the place so that it could attract more tourists from within and outside the country.

She said the state governor, Bala Mohammed, had last year declared January 15 as a day of prayers for Tafawa Balewa, adding that the State House of Assembly had made a legislation to make the day official.
