Award-winning music producer and singer Don Jazzy this week featured in two YouTube videos propagating the principles of a new group trending on social media called; Stingy Men’s Association of Nigeria (SMAN).
In one video, singing along to a song, Don Jazzy, who is tagged as Head of Union on his SMAN identity card or President, advises men to cut their coat according to their sizes and avoid making unnecessary promises.
In another skit, Don Jazzy points out to a man who wants to join the association that he isn’t qualified and, when put to the test, the prospective member fails when he sends money to a woman who claims she is with the Stingy Women’s Association. The video got over 9,000 likes as at January 14.
Apart from the fact that videos or pictures and tweets are made, encouraging men not to dole out money to their girlfriends and stick to their wives, it’s not clear if the association is actually set to hold a physical meeting.
A post by the group says there will be a national meeting from February 13 to 15, 2021 at its headquarters in Abuja.
But there is no name of venue, and it can be concluded that it is simply a hilarious way of saying men should not spend on their girlfriends on Valentine’s Day.
Apart from the existence of a Stingy Women’s Association of Nigeria, Ghana too has followed suit by creating a similar platform on Twitter.
Comedy skits
Comedy skits, such as the videos by @Mrmacaroni1 on Twitter, have grown to become very popular in the past.
Mark Angel Comedy, which features Emmanuella, has grown to become a house- hold name.
Many of the shorts involve clever children primarily Emmanuella Samuel and Success.
Angel’s first well-known short film is ‘Oga Landlord’, where a man late on rent tries to hide from his landlord.
Emmanuel is Mark Angel Comedy’s longest-appearing actress and is Africa’s youngest YouTube award winner.
Mark Angel Comedy received a plaque from YouTube for reaching a million subscriptions in 2017, making it the first Nigerian-based YouTube channel to accomplish that feat.
SMAN, established in January 2021 on Twitter, already has 26.3k followers and members are creative in keeping conversation lively around the subject through videos, pictures and comments.
