Edo gov’ship: Tribunal bars APC spokesman from testifying

The Edo State Election Petition Tribunal, Wednesday, disallowed the spokesman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chris Azebamwan, from testifying before it in the petition filed by Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

APM had filed a petition challenging the declaration of Godwin Obaseki of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as winner of the September 19, 2020 governorship election in the state on the ground that the governor and his deputy, Philip Shaibu, were not qualified to contest the election.

Chris Azebamwan was to testify before the tribunal as a subpoenaed witness for the APM.

At the resumption of hearing, counsel to PDP, Chris Uche (SAN), argued that allowing the witness to testify amounted to introducing fresh evidence through the “backdoor and smuggling” witness statement on oath.
