Mob sets man ablaze, injure another over kidnap

The Lagos State Police Command has urged residents of the state to desist from jungle justice.

The command through its spokesman, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, condemned the recent killing of a suspected ritualist.

An angry mob, penultimate Wednesday, set on fire, a yet to be identified middle-aged man and almost lynched another over allegations that they were kidnappers cum ritualists.

The mob alleged that the victims converted a particular sewage tunnel at Orile community, a densely populated Lagos suburb, for their criminal activities.

CSP Adejobi confirmed that clothing was recovered inside the tunnel but was quick to debunk the discovery of human parts by the police.

He identified the suspect found in the tunnel, who is currently in the custody of the police, as 50-year-old Kayode Ojo from Akoko, Ondo State.

“He was arrested at the scene and brought to us by 12.30 pm on Wednesday.

“They alleged he was a ritualist and was found with a human skull. But we did not see him in possession of any human parts.

“In the process of making preliminary findings from him, reports reached us that another man found there was lynched and set ablaze.

“They said he was also found in possession of a human heart. The suspect with us will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department to ascertain whether what was found with him are human parts.

“The command condemns jungle justice. We appeal to residents of the area to allow the police to investigate the matter. The Commissioner of Police has ordered the Area ‘C’ Commander to fortify security in the area,” he said.
