A tricycle rider whose name was not immediately known was burnt to death Sunday night on Mayne Avenue by Inyang Street in Calabar for allegedly robbing a resident.

Similarly, two other suspects were also set ablaze on Atu Street while the other happened on Efioanwa Street in the Anantigha close to the Calabar South LGA of the state.

The three separate incidents happened before the curfew hours which commences from 10pm till 6am in Calabar.

Following the information, our reporter went round the city and saw sites where the suspects were burnt.

A fellow Keke Napep (tricycle) rider who apparently knew the burnt Keke rider but did not give his name, said: “He suddenly stopped riding Keke. I don’t know that he had gone into stealing. The economy is hard but stealing is not the best option. Just look at the way he died, so bad. He was struggling, so they broke his legs, before putting tyres on him and lighting the fire”.

According to residents who expressed surprised, “the one killed at EfioAnwan Street used to stay in the neighborhood yet he preferred to also rob his neighbours.

“The people decided to end his life since whenever he was arrested by the police, he would always come out and will still continue with his stealing.

The corpses were yet to be evacuated as of time of filing this report.

Irene Ugbo, the PRO of the state police command said though she was not aware of the lynching but warned that it was criminal to embark on jungle justice.
