A former Commissioner of Police in Benue and Kogi States, Ibezimako Aghanya, on Sunday expressed optimism that insurgency ravaging parts of the country will end soon.
The Minister of Defence, Major-General Bashir Magashi Salihi (Rtd) reportedly remarked on Friday in Abuja that insurgency will end this year during a Juma’at Prayer held to commemorate the 2021 Armed Forces Remembrance Day at the National Mosque.
Aghanya however buttressed the minister’s comment in a telephone interview with our correspondent in Makurdi, saying, “I may believe insurgency will end from what the Minister of Defence said because from what I read in the press, the current Government has acquired a lot of both land and air modern fighting equipment which the Military lacked.
“E.g as a junior Police officer in 1980-82, Tactical air Command base Makurdi had serviceable Fighter jets. Their base was beautiful just like what you have in developed countries. When I came back as CP in Benue 2007, I paid courtesy visit to the AOC at the base, he told me that there was no reliable fighter jets to protect our Airspace.
“With improvement in acquisition of modern equipment, I believe the Minister of Defence. If the Government sustains the current efforts of improving the modern logistics supply to the Military and Police insurgency will end soon.
“Also if disgruntled Politicians and unpatriotic Citizens will desist from covertly aiding Criminals to just discredit government in power,” the retired police commissioner stated.
