A Magistrates’ Court sitting in Kano on Friday, ordered one Umar Yahaya, 25, to be flogged 12 strokes of cane and a fine of N10,000 for dealing in hard drugs.
Yahaya, a resident of Fagge Quarters of Kano metropolis, was convicted on two-count charge of public disturbances and possession of ‘rubber solution and ‘suck and die’ – narcotics.

Yahaya pleaded guilty to the two charges read to him in the court.
While delivering the judgement, the presiding judge, Magistrate Mr Farouk Ibrahim, summarily convicted the defendant and pronounced a sentence of one month in jail or the option of a fine of N10,000 and award of 12 strokes of cane.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Mr Lamido Soron-Dinki, had told the court that the convict committed the offences on Dec.31, 2020 in Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State.
He said that on the fateful day at about 7pm a team of police officers attached to Fagge Division Kano arrested the defendant while on a surveillance patrol within the area .
According to him, the defendant was in possession of 13 rubber solutions and two bottles of ‘suck and die’ suspected to be intoxicant.
Soron-Dinki said the offence contravened Sections 183 and 391 of the Penal Code.
