President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday received Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State at the State House, Abuja.
President Buhari held a closed door meeting with Governor Bello in company of Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State and Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee.
Both Governor Bello and APC Caretaker Chairman declined to entertain questions from journalists after the meeting.
Daily Trust learnt that the President might have used the meeting to advise the governor of Kogi State and APC leader on issues concerning the party and the country.
Gov Bello and 2023
Last week, the campaign posters of Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Bello, yesterday surfaced in some major roads in Kano ahead of 2023 presidential election.
Daily Trust observed that some of the inscriptions on the posters, including ‘Yahaya Bello for generational change’ were calling on Governor Bello to contest the presidential election come 2023.
The posters, however, do not have any logo of political party.
They were pasted at strategic locations in the state, including parts of Murtala Muhammad Way, Airport Road and Sani Marshal Road.
Other areas where the posters were spotted include Race Course Road, Bompai Road and some parts of Kano Government House streets.
So far, nobody has claimed responsibility for the pasting of the posters in Kano.
While the Governor has not declared to run for the office of the President in 2023, giant billboards have also been spotted in strategic locations in Kogi state urging him to run for president in 2023.
Recently, the Kogi State House of Assembly, at its plenary, passed a resolution calling on the governor to run for president.
House Majority Leader, Hassan Abdullahi, while moving the motion said the call was predicated on the ‘sterling performance’ of the governor since he assumed office in 2016.
Besides the resolution by the state lawmakers, the governor’s foot soldiers and loyalists, including commissioners and special advisers in his cabinet, have all been drumming support for his (Bello’s) presidency in 2023 through various social and traditional media platforms.
According to them, it is now the turn of the North Central geopolitical zone to produce the next president.
