Iyan Zazzau was not assassinated, he died of natural causes – Son

The foster son of late Iyan Zazzau, Alhaji Bashar Aminu, has refuted the rumuors making the rounds that the late Zazzau Prince, who was engulfed in a legal tussle with the Kaduna State Government over the selection of the 19th emir of Zazzau, had been assassinated.

Daily Trust reports that Aminu had died in Lagos in the early hours of Friday.

His remains were flown into Sabon Gari on Saturday where his Janazah prayer was conducted at the Sabon Gari Juma’at mosque before he was buried at his residence.

Shortly after the news of his demise filtered Kaduna State on Friday, rumours engulfed the state that the late prince had been assassinated in Lagos when he stepped out of his home for mosque to perform Fajr (dawn prayer) on Friday.

However, speaking to Daily Trust after the burial, Shehu Iya Sai’du, who holds the title of Tafidan  Dawakin Zazzau and a foster son to the late Iyan Zazzau, said the rumours of the assassination were unfounded.

He added that being one of the closest persons to the late Prince, he can reliably confirm that the deceased died of natural causes.

“He has been ill, but because he was a very brave man, many people didn’t know about it except for those of us who were very close to him,” he said.

“The rumour of the shooting is not true and I am one of the closest persons to him because he was fostered by my father and he also fostered me since I was two years old.
“So, I can tell you that it was his time and the Almighty who gave him to us has taken him.
“Our prayer is that Allah have mercy on his soul and grant him Aljannah Firdaus,” he further said.
Sai’du said his late foster father was brought back home for burial because he had left specific instructions that his Janazah prayer be conducted at the Sabon Gari Juma’at Mosque and that be laid to rest in Sabon Gari.
“We thank Almighty Allah that we have fulfilled these instructions he left for us,” he said.
