#EndSARS: Oba of Lagos returns to palace two months after

Oba of Lagos, Riliwanu Akiolu, on Friday, staged a triumphant return to his palace more than two months after it was attacked in the wake of the #EndSARS protest and the attendant violence.

Oba Akiolu arrived at the ancient Iga Idunganran palace in the heart of Lagos Island Friday afternoon amidst singing and dancing.

Daily Trust reports that the ancestral palace came under attack on October 21, 2020 as hoodlums carted away the Oba’s staff and destroyed properties in the palace.

Oba Akiolu was whisked out of the palace by armed soldiers in the course of the attack which was widely condemned as a desecration of the palace.

Since October 21, Oba has been living in his private residence at Lekki as the palace was renovated.

Daily Trust learnt that in line with tradition and the need to cleanse the sacrilege said to have been committed by the suspected hoodlums, certain rites were performed.
