The Police in Katsina said at least eight persons were killed in the early hours of Tuesday, including six bandits and two residents of Lambo village of Kurfi local Government Area of Katsina state.
Police said this followed a siege laid by security personnel when they received a report of the attack in the village when two residents were killed by the bandits.
A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer in Katsina, SP Gambo Isa, said “On 29/12/2020 at about 2:30am, bandits numbering over 30 attacked Lambo village, Kurfi LGA of Katsina state, killed two persons and kidnapped 17 women and six children”.
The statement added that personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army and Nigerian Air Force were alerted and they blocked all their possible escape routes.
“Consequently, the teams laid siege for the hoodlums between Ummadau to Kwayawa village and engaged them into a fierce gun duel, as a result of which six bandits were killed, all the 23 kidnapped victims were rescued, 23 Cows, 20 sheep, and 31 goats recovered, 12 motorcycles and one G3 rifle recovered,” the statement added.
SP Isah said search parties were still combing the area with a view to arresting more suspected bandits and/or recovering their dead bodies, as investigation was ongoing.
In another development, SP Isah said the Command had received additional units of mobile Police personnel and brand new vehicles to fight banditry in the state.
