After 10 months, Metuh leaves prison

A former spokesperson of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olisa Metuh, has been released from the National Correctional Centre, Kuje, FCT.

Metuh was released Thursday following an order of a Federal High Court judge, Justice Nkeonye Maha, granting him bail pending trial on Wednesday.

Metuh had brought an application through his lawyers led by Dr Onyechi Ikpeazu (SAN) which prayed the court for his release as his conviction and sentence having been quashed by the Court of Appeal in Abuja.

Daily Trust gathered that the lawyers served the certified true copies of the judgement and the earlier judgment of the appellate court on the correctional service officials, which was complied with immediately yesterday.

A three-member panel of justices which was presided by Justice Stephen Adah had on Wednesday, December 16 held that the trial of Metuh before a Federal High Court in Abuja presided by Justice Okon Abang was manifestly biased, and also ordered a retrial of the case.

Justice Abang had on February 25 sentenced Olisa Metuh to seven years imprisonment.

Metuh was alleged to have received the sum of N400 million from former National Security Adviser (NSA), Col. Sambo Dasuki, which he maintained was used for the presidential campaign publicity of former president, Goodluck Jonathan.
