An Ekiti State High Court has sentenced Adedara Aladesugba, 40, to life imprisonment for attempted murder.
The court said Aladesugba’s act was intended to cause grievous harm and assault occasioning harm.
Justice Oluwatoyin Abodunde said “the accused was found guilty on all the three charges, accordingly.
Abodunde sentenced Aladesugba to life imprisonment on counts 1 and 2 and three years imprisonment on count 3. All the sentences are to run concurrently.
According to the charge, the act was committed on or about July 26, 2017 at Aramoko Ekiti, when he attempted to murder, intended to cause grievous harm and occasioning harm on one Okere Olusesan contrary to sections 320, 332 and 355 of the Criminal Code, Cap C16, Laws of Ekiti State of Nigeria, 2012.
In his testimony, the victim said he and the convict were siblings. He said on the fateful day, the accused trailed him to his house and beat mercilessly before cutting his stomach with a broken bottle and he had to be rushed to the hospital.
To prove his case, the prosecutor, Bola Oyewole, called four witnesses and tendered exhibit which included, the petition letter to the Commissioner of Police, photographs of the cut stomach of the victim, medical report and the statement of the accused among others.
