The Super Lions of Onzo in Kogi state have emerged champions of the White Lion’s football match competition.
The final football match, which held at Gegu-Beki mini stadium on Sunday, saw the Super Lions defeating Girinya United by a lone goal scored during the first half of the game.
Speaking while presenting the trophy to the Super Lions of Onzo football club, the state commissioner for Solid minerals, Eng Abubakar Bashir Gegu, said he decided to organise the football competition and tagged it ‘White Lions Cup’ because the state governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, is a victorious, energetic, youthful, resourceful governor of the state.
He added that one of the cardinal principles of organising the football competition was aimed at bringing youths together across the nook and crannies of the entire local government to participate in the competition.
According to him, bringing the youth together to participate in the football competition will keep the youth busy and divert their attention from engaging in any form of social vices in the area.
‘And I observed that the best way to engage our youth is through organising this kind of football competition, which will help in addressing social vices in our society,” he said.
