Ogun State Commissioner for Industry, Trade and Investment, Mrs. Kikelomo, says the state government had made budgetary allocation to upgrade Industrial Service Centre in the 2021 fiscal year.

The commissioner, who made this known during a budget defence before the Committee on Finance and Appropriation of the State House of Assembly, on Monday, said the upgrade is part of the move to promote the use of indigenous technology and boost the industrialisation of the state.

She noted that the centre required urgent improvement to meet the latest industrial-technological advancements to enable the fabrication of machines and tools needed by various industries in the state.

“The upgrade of the Industrial Service Centre is very important to the revolution of our dear state.  The centre when upgraded would, through its various fabrications, help meet the increasing demand for indigenous technology. This upgrade will further create more jobs, boost the naira, as well as aid the country’s fast recovery from the negative effect of the coronavirus pandemic”, she said.

The commissioner added that the ministry’s 2021 proposed budget of N1, 215, 468, 435.23 which consists of recurrent expenditure of N483,538, 544.12 representing 39.78 percent and capital expenditure of N731,929, 891.11 representing 60.22 percent would enable the ministry through road haulage collection, registration of business premises and inspection fee, to generate N1,225,000,000.

Longe further disclosed that the budget estimate would also enable the ministry to create 18 incubation units and provide laboratory equipment at the three Technology Incubation Centres at Odogbolu, Owode-Yewa and Abeokuta, as well as establish a quality control laboratory to aid its exploration of various geological sites in the state.
