A peace panel in Taraba State has called on Tiv and Jukun communities in Chonku and Assa chiefdoms in the state to forget the past and embrace peace.
Recurrent clashes between the two ethnic groups had claimed scores of lives and displaced many. The state government constituted a committee to resettle the displaced persons.

Speaking at a peace seminar in Wukari, Taraba at the weekend, the chairman of the resettlement committee, Mr. Edward Ajibauka, urged the warring parties to sheath their swords.
Ajibauka explained that the resettlement programme of persons displaced during the Tiv/Jukun crisis was initiated by Governor Darius Ishaku as part of his efforts to find a lasting solution to the aged-long conflict between the two ethnic groups.
“Our governor has seen the beauty of peace and mandated this committee to set a standard for Chonku and Assa chiefdom so that both of you cooperate and obey law and order,” he said
Mr. Ajibauka also reiterated the need for the two ethnic groups to recognize constituted authorities in their respective chiefdoms, which he said was basic ingredients for peace in any society.
He said the state government was ready to accommodate other chiefdoms that have similar problem, but however advised that all communities must obey the law and constituted authorities.
