FG empowers 200 female artisans

The federal government has trained and empowered 200 women and girls in men dominated economic activities.

Speaking during the graduation ceremony of the female artisans in Abuja recently, the Director General of National Centre for Women Development, Mary Ekpere-Eta, said the empowerment was to promote development and create opportunities for better growth.

The beneficiaries were trained in plumbing and pipe fitting; plant and generator mechanics; tiling and masonry; refrigeration and air conditioning repairs, and Plaster of Paris (POP), electrical fittings and wiring.

Ekoere-Eta said the programme was based on the recognition that women’s economic empowerment is the first step to financial freedom.

“It is also meant to provide skilled resource and balanced workforce in the construction industries and above all, to provide economic opportunities to Women and Girls who form more that 55% of the Country’s population,” she said.
