The Comptroller General of Customs (CGC) Strike Force Team, Zone A unit in Lagos has intercepted smuggled items and falsely declared items that are worth N1.42 billion in the last four weeks.
Speaking on Wednesday while unveiling the seizures, the coordinator of the strike force, Deputy Comptroller Ahmadu Bello Shuaibu, said his unit seized 564 bales of textiles materials falsely declared as machinery and raised Debit Note (DN) on falsely declared cargoes worth N490 million.
Shuaibu said his team then intercepted foreign parboiled rice, footwears and foreign bags along with the textile materials with N895m duty value.
He said “Importers and smugglers shouldn’t make Nigeria a dumping ground because these fabrics and footwear can be produced in Nigeria.”
