The Northern Security Monitoring Committee (NSMC) has attributed growing security challenges in the country to the porosity of borders, adding that it is one of the reasons Nigeria was losing war against bandits and Boko Haram.
It also said that for federal government to successfully win the war against the insurgency in the Lake Chad region, it must step up necessary multilateral as well as bilateral diplomatic collaborations with neighbouring countries in order to breathe fresh life into the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF).

These were parts of the resolutions reached by members of the committee after a virtual meeting which centred on safety of Nigerian citizens and other security operatives.
A communiqué signed on behalf of other members by Amb. Sani Bala, explained that the proliferation of arms coming through borders should be stopped.
“Our boarders, though officially closed, remain porous even as technology for effective monitoring is available. We have no reason to continue with the current situation which is fueling the proliferation of small arms and infiltration of criminals and bandits thereby worsening the security problems, especially banditry,” the communiqué partly read.
