Northern elders flay disruption of Kaduna summit

A group of northern elders has condemned Monday’s disruption of a peace summit and attack on participants at Arewa House in Kaduna State by some hoodlums believed to be sponsored.

The elders described the attack as heartless considering that the summit, organised by the Coalition of Northern Group (CNG), was meant to address the insecurity plaguing the North and fashion out ways of restoring peace in the region.

The elders, under the aegis of Coalition of Northern Elders for Peace and Development (CNEPD), noted that the people attacked had converged to deliberate and find workable solutions on the growing insecurity in the North and wondered why some people from the same North would want insecurity to persist in the region.

SPONSOR AD

The National Coordinator, Engr. Zana Goni and National Women Leader, Hajiya Mairo Bichi, said on Tuesday in Abuja that the attack was callous and reprehensible.

“We strongly suspect that the hoodlums who carried out the act were sponsored by some highly placed people benefiting from the insecurity in the North,” they said.

They, however, said the attack had only awoken the determination in them and they would therefore continue to press forward their demand for a secured North until total peace and security of the people is restored and guaranteed.
