The Edo State chapter of the Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE) has called on all practising engineers to join the fight against quacks in the profession in the state and Nigeria at large.
State NSE chairman, Engr. Omoregie Ehigie, made the call at the weekend during the inauguration of the Edo State Technical Committee (ESTC) and Edo State Expatriate Monitoring Committee (ESEMC) on engineering regulation in Benin City.

He noted that many lives and property have been lost due to the activities of non-professionals who have hijacked the process.
“With this inauguration, the era of mediocrity should be gone. I am tired of people who don’t have the relevant training calling themselves engineers; engineering is a serious practice compared to the practice of medicine,” he said.
He commended the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) for its role in ensuring that engineering practice in the country is standardised and in line with global best practices.
“I want to also use this opportunity to tell the general public that things are not going to be the way they used to be. Our engineers are ready to do things differently and to make sure the safety of every Edo person is guaranteed,” he said.
The President of COREN, Mr Ali Rabiu, said all practising engineering firms are now required to obtain the council’s practising license as a condition for pre-qualification for any engineering job in Nigeria.
