Bandits on rampage as Buhari visits Katsina

Barely 24 hours after President Muhammadu Buhari landed in Katsina state for a week-long visit, suspected heavily armed bandits, have launched several attacks in towns and villages, where they killed some people and abducted others to unknown locations.

Daily Trust gathered that at least 12 were reported killed and several others injured in different attacks that took place in Kankara and Danmusa local government areas of the state.

Latest amongst the attacks was in Kankara town, the headquarters of Kankara local government area, Friday night, where many students went missing after the armed bandits attacked Government Science Secondary School.

Attack on Yar Kuka

In another development, on Thursday, a day before the President’s arrival, heavily armed men attacked Yar Kuka village, also in Kankara LGA, where 12 people were reportedly killed and some others abducted.

A resident of the village who has one of his daughters kidnapped told our reporter that “The bandits invaded our village around 9:30 pm and started shooting guns indiscriminately where killed 12 people and abducted six women.

“Three of the abducted women are married with my daughter inclusive, while the remaining three are young girls.”

Dan Ali attack

Also on the same Thursday, unknown gunmen attacked Dan Ali village in Danmusa LGA where they abducted a retired education officer, identified as Sani Skido.

A resident of the village said the attackers who came around 12 midnight, had to fire some shots to force open the door of the room where the victim was hiding in his house and traces of blood were seen from the room and his condition of health was not known yet.

Maidabino attack

Similarly, three travellers were reported to be abducted on Friday by unidentified gunmen on the way from Danmusa to Maidabino village in Danmusa local government area of the state.

A resident of Danmusa said the travellers, who were suspected to have returned from Benin in Edo state, were intercepted and their vehicle was abandoned at the scene of the abduction.
