The United Nations has warned that the security situation in Borno State, remained volatile, stressing the need to ease the humanitarian pressure on the Lake Chad countries.
The UN’s statement is coming weeks after rice farmers were massacred in Zabarmari area of Jere Local Government Area of the state.

The global body said the situation was precarious for civilians including aid workers.
The Country Representative, United Nations High Commission for Refugees Nigeria, Ms. Chansa Kapaya, stated this at a stakeholders meeting on the implementation of the Global Compact on Refugees in Abuja, Thursday.
The meeting was attended by Governor Babagana Zulum of the state and the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Mrs Sadiya Farouk.
She said more internally displaced persons were leaving their communities for Cameroon, Chad, and Niger, and noted the importance of enhancing refugee self-reliance to ease the pressure on the host countries.
Meanwhile, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, on Thursday told his colleagues to wait for the official communication of President Muhammadu Buhari on their invitation over rising insecurity in the country.
Raising a point of order during plenary, yesterday, Rep. Solomon Bob (PDP, Rivers) asked the speaker to address the members on why the president who had earlier accepted to honour their invitation failed to come.
The speaker said, “We wait for official communications from Mr President as opposed to newspaper publications.”
Similarly, the House spokesman, Rep. Benjamin Kalu while briefing journalists on the matter said, they have not received any official correspondence from the president on the matter.
