The wedding ceremony between a 23-year-old Kano indigene, Isah Sulaiman, and a 46-year-old American mum, Jannine Sanchezt has been scheduled for Sunday, December 13, the father of the groom-to-be, Malam Sulaiman Isah confirmed to Daily Trust.
The wedding earlier scheduled for March was postponed to December due to the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak and the lockdown that followed, it was gathered.
Speaking with Daily Trust on Wednesday, Malam Isah said the marriage between his son his American lover will hold in the mosque in accordance with Islamic principles.
“That is why the marriage is taking place in the mosque and we are going to pay the dowry which is given to her,” he said.
Malam Isah added that due to security issues in the country the marriage will hold on “a low key.”
“For security purpose, I stopped them from conducting all sorts of parties. It is going to be in a low key. I think only his sisters are planning to do a traditional sitting among themselves in order to rejoice with their brother,” he said.
He added that due to the fact that his son is yet to secure a visa, the bride-to-be will be going back alone to America immediately after the wedding.
Recall that the relationship between the two lovers had generated controversy earlier this year when the news of their engagement broke.
Both of them reportedly met on Instagram about two years ago and started an online courtship and later in January this year Sanchez came to Kano to meet with her lover’s parent.
The father had then issued some conditions to be met before he will allow the marriage to go ahead after meeting with officials of Hisbah, the Shariah police in Kano.
Daily Trust learnt that Ms Sanchezt, who lives in California, USA, landed at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano on Friday for the preparation of the wedding.
In an earlier interview, Ms Sanchezt said she decided to marry her boyfriend in Kano because of her love for him.
Also, Mr Isa, who is in his first year at university, in an earlier interview said that he is ready to follow his spouse to America to settle and build a family.
