Angry youths destroy Benue APC chairman’s house, cars over death of domestic worker

Angry youths, on Monday, destroyed the house of Benue State chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Abba Yaro, over the sudden death of one of his domestic workers.

Daily Trust reports that the rampaging youths smashed windows as well as parts of the building in which the APC chairman inhabits with his family while also destroying cars and air conditioners in the premises.

Witnesses said that the youths were angered by the circumstances which led to the death of a security guard who works in Yaro’s residence.

It was learnt that the deceased was electrocuted while trying to cut down a branch of tree allegedly touching the high tension wire passing through the house.

Some residents of the area told our correspondent that the body of the deceased was found early Monday morning dangling from the tree, a sight which provoked the youths.

But the APC chairman has denied knowledge of how the sad incident occurred, saying he was awoken by the noise of people and that upon enquiry, he was told that one of his security guards, who tried to cut down a branch of tree having contact with high tension electrical wire, was electrocuted.

“When I asked the other security man, he told me that he warned the man against going to cut the branch of tree that was touching high tension wire and that the man said he knew how he would cut it, only for him to be electrocuted.

“We were in the process of sorting out things when youths came in their numbers, pulled down the gate and entered the house and destroyed it. You can all see all that were destroyed,” he said.

Yaro, however, said that the prompt intervention by Governor Samuel Ortom’s visit saved his family members from being attacked by the mob.

Governor Ortom, who visited the scene, condemned the destruction of the house by the irate youths as he appealed to them not to take laws into their hands whenever anything goes wrong.

He stressed the need for people to allow the relevant enforcement agencies to handle such situations.
