Lagos car washer nabbed in Ogun with customer’s vehicle

The police in Ogun State have arrested a car washer, Idris Ayotunde, with a Ford car marked EPE 707 FM which he allegedly stole from his customer in Lagos.

The police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the suspect was arrested at Alakija village by a Safer Highways patrol team which was on a stop-and-search duty along the Abeokuta/Ibadan expressway.

Oyeyemi said the team stopped the car and demanded for its documents which the suspect was unable to produce and that the suspect was taken to the Odeda Divisional headquarters where the DPO, Ajayi Williams, interrogated him and found out that he actually stole the car.

“The suspect who claimed to be an OND holder from a polytechnic in one of the South West states explained that he joined the car wash stand situated at Jimoh Bus Stop, Shasha Akowonjo in Lagos not up to one month ago.

“He stated further that the owner of the car brought it for vacuum cleaning and handed over the key to him.

“He said since they didn’t have a vacuum engine in their own car wash, he decided to take it to another car wash nearby, but that he changed his mind on the road and bolted with the car,” Oyeyemi explained.

He said the owner of the car, Mrs. Shofidiya Tosin, who had reported the case at the Shasha Police Station, had been contacted and that she confirmed that the car was stolen from her.

Oyeyemi said the Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun, had ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for onward transfer to Lagos State Command.
