On Nigeria’s unity, peace and progress

I shed tears whenever I think about the future of my lovely nation. The “giant of Africa” with its population, economic factors, fertile land and other natural endowments has a populace not benefiting in any way and are denied quality education, health, among others.

Religion and culture are human and people are proud of the two. It isn’t a taboo for one to show his/her identity, but the application of both religion and culture in our day-to-day affairs seems to be too tough in the sense that nobody is tolerating one another because of religious and cultural differences. What a nation, full of tribal, selective greedy and partial leaders; leaders of zero determination on the nation’s progress.

It’s a matter of concern, we keep living together, share same schools,  business, among others, but keep hating one another, halting the nation’s progress and disrupting our peace; keep giving the politicians chance to ruin our lives and upgrade theirs.

The painful point is, we are already brainwashed to the extent we can’t distinguish what is right or wrong, good or bad. Every day is a different issue. We have no taste but to go with their choices when it isn’t supposed to be this way in a democracy.

Unfortunately, our politicians have realised how cheap and blinded we are by sentiments and they capitalise on it to play basketball with our brains while enjoy their luxury, irrespective of religion or political affiliation.

Taking a look at the unprecedented security challenges, one will see that the politicians are just tabling, extending and rotating problem to our regions. When region E is having a problem today, tomorrow it will be region W, after tomorrow will be region S and another day will be region N.

They understand that the more crises are generated, the more virus will be injected on us not to tolerate one another. In fact, this is the point I want to raise; they are just diverting our senses through crises generation and squandering the nation’s wealth on themselves.

From 2007 to 2009, it was the issue of Niger Delta Avengers in South-South, 2009 to 2015, Boko Haram in North-East, 2015 to 2019, armed bandits in North-West, plus kidnapping in North-Central, 2020, saboteurs in the name of #EndSARS.

The aforementioned are all politics- related crises. Therefore, Nigerians, especially the youth, need to wake up and look at these issues, because we can’t just hand over our destiny to such people who have zero interest in building the nation. Imagine that a 60-year independent nation can’t produce a single item in the name of development.

Finally, let’s unite, irrespective of religion or ethnic background, to stop this nonsense, if not we may end up worse for it.
