Emir of Rano suspends 2 village heads over diversion of COVID-19 palliative

The Emir of Rano, Alhaji Kabir Muhammad Inuwa, has suspended two village heads under Rano LGA for allegedly diverting COVID-19 palliatives meant for the masses.

A close associate to the emirate told our reporter that the emir shared the palliatives to the district heads of the emirate and directed them to share them among their subjects through their village heads, but the two decided to keep them.

He added that the village heads, whose names and villages they are representing were withheld, have been suspended by the emir and representatives have been sent to take over from them pending the outcome of investigations.

“After receiving palliatives from the emir, the district head shared them to the village heads the same night they were received. But the two village heads did not take them to their villages, they instead kept them at Rano.

“When the emir contacted the ward heads in the villages, about 30 out of 31 said they were not aware of it and did not receive any palliative from the village heads. Then the emir decided to suspend them and told the DPO of the emirate to investigate the matter,” he said.

He said the emir will decide on the matter after the investigation, which is being conducted by the police.
