Time for hit and run is over, Iran warns Israel over scientist killing

Iranian authorities on Saturday warned that they will no longer tolerate what they described as Israel’s terrorism in the Middle East, Abbas Araghchi, the Iranian deputy foreign minister, has said.

He stated this in Niamey, while speaking at the 47th session of Council of Foreign Minsters (CFM) of Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.

Araghchi was reacting to the recent killing of Iran’s top nuclear scientist, Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, who was allegedly assassinated on Friday while traveling by car in a suburb of Tehran.

According to the deputy minister, “Time has passed for hit and run. Iran will no longer tolerate Israel’s activities who just yesterday [Friday] innocently killed our top scientist.

“This is in addition to their continuous invasion of Palestine territories despite international condemnation. Iran totally condemn this and will rise against it,” Araghchi said.

He said Islamic countries must work together collectively in solidarity with the Palestinians to address their challenges.

Fakhrizadeh’s killing, who was widely seen as the father of the country’s nuclear weapons programme, may further escalate tensions over Iran’s nuclear programme with the US and its close ally Israel.

Israel has not commented so far, but has previously accused Fakhrizadeh of being behind a covert nuclear weapons programme of the country.
