Akwa Ibom employs 1,000 secondary school teachers

The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel has ordered the immediate employment of 1,000 teachers in public secondary schools across the state.

Governor Emmanuel who gave the directive at the special State Executive Council meeting dedicated to education and ancillary matters in Uyo also ordered the release of the 2019 teachers’ promotion interview results.

He directed the commencement of processes for the recruitment of the additional teachers for the secondary school.

The directive is said to be in tune with the employment of 3,500 teachers previously undertaken by the government which is an ongoing process based on needs.

In a press release signed by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Comrade Ini Ememobong, and made available to newsmen in Uyo, he said the Chairman, Education Technical Committee, Professor Hilary Inyang, presented the “Akwa Ibom State Education Roadmap”.

He mentioned that report on the state of secondary schools in the State was also presented by the Chairman, State Secondary Education Board, Dr. Ekaette Ebong Uko.

Ememobong said SEC also considered the report on the state of primary education presented by the Permanent Secretary of State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Elder Ezekiel Umoh, and set the first quarter of 2021 as deadline for SUBEB to complete the ongoing State government interventions in 159 primary schools.

On tertiary education, he said SEC received a status report from the Akwa Ibom State University as presented by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Nse Essien, which contained prospects, challenges and programmes of the institution, adding that it was undergoing further examination by designated subcommittees of the Council.
