Aisha Buhari seeks actions on violence against women

Nigerian First Lady Aisha Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday urged stakeholders, including the private sector and civil society organizations, to increase actions and partnerships to address the challenges facing women and girls in the society.

She made the call in Abuja at an event organized by the African First Ladies Peace Mission to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women 2020 themed ‘Fund, Response, Prevent and Collect.’

She was represented by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Women Affairs and Administration, Office of the First Lady, Hajia Hajo Sani.

She said: “It’s a well-known fact that violence against women exists in every country cutting across culture, ethnic origin, class, education and income. This violence includes rape, sexual exploitation, sexual abuse, forced early marriage, domestic violence, trafficking and female genital mutilation.”
