An unnamed police inspector has lost his life during a gun battle with gunmen suspected to be militants who attacked the village residence of immediate past Governor of Bayelsa State, Seriake Dickson, in Toro-Orua community, Sagbama LGA of the state.
Police authorities, which confirmed the attack, said the police inspector who sustained injuries while trying to repel the attackers from gaining entry into the building later died in the hospital.

Police spokesman, SP Asinim Butswat, while confirming the incident yesterday, said the Commissioner of Police had visited the scene.
Butswat said investigations into the incident had commenced.
Reacting to the attack, former Governor Dickson’s spokesman, Fidelis Soriwei, said the ex-governor and his family were not in the building as at the time of the attack.
