A Medical Entomologist with Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital(AKTH) Kano Dr Mustapha Ahmed Yusuf has urged patients with diabetic foot to desist from moving around from one hospital to another or one herbalist to another in order to reduce the deterioration condition of the affected foot.
Dr Mustapha in a statement by the spokesperson of the hospital, Hauwa Abdullahi said barely a month after the commencement of maggot therapy in the hospital, most patients with diabetic ulcers present with 4th-5th grade level of the Diabetic ulcers which is the highest stage when put on the wagner classification grade of the Diabetic ulcers.

He said that the main aim of maggot therapy is to achieve a debridement process within a shortest possible period , reduce the long stay on the hospital bed as well as the financial spending.
He call on all diabetic patients that started witnessing wounds on the foot to quickly come to the hospital where it can be treated and get healed within a short time without any part of the limbs been removed.
On other chronic wounds that stays for months or years on the legs and other part of the body Dr Mustapha said that most of such wounds are not cancers as they are normally referred by the public as they can be treated as well using maggot therapy to remove all the dirt/bacteria that prevented it from healing to pave way for skin grafting by the plastic Surgeons or allow it to heal by itself.
