Zamfara Commissioner for Rural and Community Development, Abubakar Abdullahi, on Saturday sponsored a mass wedding for 50 widows and divorcees in Tsafe Local Government Area of the state.

The ceremony, held at the palace of the Emir of Tsafe, is to support the less privileged and victims of banditry and other security challenges, Abdullahi said, in addition to reducing adultery and other social vices.

He said the Emir of Tsafe, Muhammad Bawa, and Islamic scholars in the area encouraged him to sponsor the wedding, said to have cost N25 million.

” This is in line with the present administration in the state led by Governor Bello Matawalle to address security and other social challenges in the state,” he said.

Governor Bello Matawalle, in remarks delivered by the speaker of the state assembly Nasiru Magarya, urged top government officials, political office holders and other well-meaning individuals to emulate the gesture by supporting the needy in the society.

“We appreciate this effort by one of our commissioners, we hope this would help in addressing security and other social challenges in the state,” he said.

The Emir of Tsafe, Muhammad Bawa, urged the couples embrace patience and live in peace in order to have blissful families.

Chairman of the organizing committee, Buhari Kaura said the beneficiaries were drawn from less-privileged families across the wards in the state.

Each couple is provided house materials, furniture, clothing and food items.
