Sanwo-Olu unveils first electric vehicle in Nigeria

The first electric vehicle (EV) in Nigeria, the Hyundai Kona, was yesterday unveiled in Lagos.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu unveiled the first locally assembled Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) electric car from the stable of Stallion Group/VON Automobile at the VON Assembly plant along Lagos-Badagry expressway.

Governor Sanwo-Olu who thanked the Stallion Group for bringing the first electric car into the country assured that the state government would create the enabling environment to support the technology by establishing charging points at strategic locations.

The governor promised to collaborate with business organizations in the state especially, Stallion Automobile Company, which assembled the Kona SUV, saying that this would lead to improved employment opportunities in the state.

‘’We are creating youth employment, opportunities and new openings for our teeming youth with the unveiling of this innovation. This is the future of technology. This is the first electric vehicle that will be assembled in the country and this is why we must partner with them and create the enabling environment”, he said

Speaking earlier, the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO), Stallion Groups, Mr. Manish Rohtagi, said the company was excited to assemble the first electric vehicle in the country, adding thatVON facility has the capacity to assemble over 200,000 units of vehicles annually.
