Bank launches free medical outreach for women, children in Gombe

No fewer than 1000 women and children in Gombe State have benefited from a two-day free medical outreach organised by the Fidelity Bank PLC in collaboration with the Jewel Care Foundation, a pet project of the state’s First Lady, Hajiya Asma’u Inuwa Yahaya.

Speaking at the flagging off, the first lady urged the beneficiaries to take advantage of the outreach in the interest of their health wellbeing, stressing that the outreach was intended to provide quality and broad medical care to residents of the state, especially women and children.

Asma’u Yahaya also called on residents of the state to keep their environment clean in order to prevent outbreak of yellow fever in the state.

According to her, with the recent outbreak of the disease in neighbouring Bauchi state which already claimed eight lives, “It was necessary to sensitise members of the public to avoid similar incidents in the state.”

She appealed to residents to report cases of fever to health facilities immediately for examination and treatment, “you should not wait until you start bleeding or your eyes become yellow,” she added.

In a remark, Fidelity Bank’s Head of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Mr Chris Nnakwe, commended the governor’s wife for taking welfare of women and children through her foundation and partnering with the bank.

Also speaking, the Gombe Branch Manager of bank, Malam Umar Bappi, explained that the outreach was part of the Corporate Social Responsibility of the bank, which focuses on environment, education, health, social welfare and youth empowerment.

Our correspondent reports that the outreach covers cervical and breast cancer screening, free malaria test, blood pressure test, diabetes screening, HIV/AIDS test and counselling, de-worming as well as provision of free eye glasses among others.
