‘Nasarawa youth commission bill to curb restiveness’

Actionaid Nigeria said the proposedNasarawa State Youth Development Commission would address youths restiveness and brutality.

Mr Anicetus Atakpu, the Resilience Programme Coordinator, stated this while speaking with newsmen after the bill for its creation scaled first reading at the State House of Assembly in Lafia.

He said Actionaid through the system and Structure Strengthening Approach Against Radicalization to Violent Extremism (SARVE 11) is supporting the bill.

“It seeks to reduce the vulnerability of young people to violence extremism by creating an enabling environment that is supportive and protective of their fundamental human rights, ensuring inclusion in decision making.

“Equal opportunities and freedom from abuse, intimidation and discrimination while also paving way for youth- led initiative, empowerment and entrepreneurship programmes within the state,” he said.

The bill is sponsored by the Deputy Speaker, Nehemiah Tsentse Dandaura. He agreed that the bill would address youths’ restiveness.

“I want to commend my colleagues for allowing the bill which I am sponsoring to scale first reading and I call on them to continue to give me support for the speedy passage of the bill.  If the bill is finally passed into law, it will address youths’ unemployment among other challenges of the youths in the state,” he said.
