Benue working to achieve more drop in HIV/AIDS

The Benue State Agency for the Control of AIDs (BENSACA) has expressed optimism to significantly reduce the prevalence rate of HIV/AIDs in the state to a controllable level.

Executive Secretary of BENSACA, Dr Jacob Owoade, who made the remark in an interview with journalists in Makurdi shortly after meeting with stakeholders and partners in preparation for  the World AIDS Day holding on December 1, noted that the state had witnessed drop in its prevalence rate in the past few years.

Owoade, however, said more is needed to be done to consolidate the successes.

He disclosed that the state, which now ranks the fourth position from being number one 10 years ago with the prevalence of the virus in the country, would continue to work hard by expanding its advocacy and test centers.

The BENSACA boss added that the drugs are freely accessed in government hospitals as he denied allegations that the drugs are sold to patients in the hospitals.
