Both the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, and the Command Spokesman, could not give details of the attack as they kept rejecting all calls to their phones.

But sources said the bandits trailed the bullion van from a mall in Ajah where it has gone to collect cash to a lonely spot before they eventually overtook it.

The source said the gunmen opened fire at the occupants of the bullion van as soon as they caught with the vehicle.

The source also alleged that one of the bullets hit a commercial motorcycle rider, killing him on the spot.

A police source said two persons, the driver and a spy policeman, sustained bullet wounds during the attack.

“During the attack that lasted for several minutes, at least two persons were said to have been killed by the gunmen who trailed the bullion van to entrance of Blanco Supermarket where the cash was moved away” the source said.

The gunmen, aside from vandalizing the bullion van, also attacked a water tanker, forcing the driver and motor-boy to scamper for safety.

It was also gathered that both the driver of the water tanker and his conductor sustain injuries while trying the escape from the scene.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Lagos Command, Muyiwa Adejobi could not be reached for confirmation as at press time as he kept on rejecting all calls to his phone
