The Kano State Controller, Nigerian Correctional Services, NCS, Suleiman Suleiman has said that ten inmates currently serving various jail terms in the state have applied for admission into National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).
Speaking with newsmen, Suleiman said this year alone, 17 inmates sat for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and National Examination Council’s Senior Secondary Certificate Examination in the state.

According to him, some of the inmates have completed secondary school education before arriving at the centre. He said such inmates would be allowed write their final exams at a staff school in Goron Dutse facility.
He appealed to the general populace to stop stigmatising the inmates after their reintegration back the society.
“We should not reject them so that they will not go back to their old way of life,” Suleiman said.
