A magistrate court in Osogbo, Osun State, on Wednesday, remanded two women, Suliyat Tajudeen and Ayomide Abdulazeez at the Nigeria Correctional Centre over alleged attempt to assassinate the governor of the state, Adegboyega Oyetola under the pretext of #EndSARS protest.
The accused persons were arraigned on six-count charge of attempted murder, malicious damage, burglary and conspiracy.
The Police prosecutor, Mr John Idoko, said the 20-year-old accused persons were among those that vandalised and looted Osun Mall in Osogbo.
Idoko told the court that the accused committed the offence on October 17, 2020, at about 4:30pm at Olaiya Junction, Osogbo.
He said the accused conspired among themselves and unlawfully attempted to kill Governor Oyetola by firing guns and throwing stones at him.
The Police prosecutor also said that the accused, on the same day at about 8:00pm, did unlawfully break and enter into Justrite Mall and stole laptops, mobile phone and phone accessories valued at N3,568,000 belonging to one Ashiru Ibrahim Olayemi.
According to the charge sheet, the offence committed by the accused is contrary to and punishable under section 516, 320(1), 451, 414 and 390 of the Capital Code 34 Vol ll Law of Osun State 2002.
The accused persons pleaded not guilty and their counsel, Nurudeen Kareem, sought their bail.
But the prosecutor opposed the bail application on the ground that the accused persons will commit similar offence if granted bail.
In his ruling, Magistrate Olusegun Ayilara remanded the accused persons in Ilesa Correctional Centre till November 20, 2020.
