The President of the Court of Appeal Hon. Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem has assured that the judiciary will not despair despite the losses recorded when some suspected hoodlums vandalised the Court of Appeal Division and the High Court in Lagos during the wake of the #ENDSARS protest.

Lagos, Nigeria’s economic hub was left devastated last month when hoodlums hijacked the #ENDSARS protests where a large number of youths were protesting against police brutality in the country.

No fewer than 27 buildings, including police stations, media houses, government secretariats, and the court were attacked and left in ruins.

Many case files and other valuables were burnt when the hoodlums launched attacks on the two courts.

While on an inspection tour of the vandalized Court of Appeal Division and the High Court in Lagos, Dongban-Mensem expressed shock at the level of damage caused but thank God there was no loss of life.

“We shall not despair; we shall not be despondent but we shall stand strong and we shall move forward by the grace of God.” She said.

She equally appreciated the Justices and lawyers for their commendable patience and efforts towards ensuring that they carry out their duties despite all that had happened.

The Chief Judge of Lagos State, Hon. Justice Kazeem Alogba who was also present at the inspection encouraged his colleagues saying “If we are doing well, we should do better now… they don’t understand, if they do, they won’t do this because they will still come to us for justice” then prayed that such would not happen again.

President of the Court of Appeal also paid a courtesy visit to the Governor of Lagos State Babajide Sanwo-Olu, at the State House, Marina Lagos.

She commiserated with the Governor over the recent violence and mayhem in the state before the meeting went into a closed-door session.
