The House of Representatives Committee on Federal Road Safety Corps on Monday said it never asked that the FRSC be allowed to bear arms.
The chairman of the committee, Mayowa Akinfolarin, at a press conference in Abuja, was reacting to reports that the committee had recommended that the FRSC officials bear arms.

FRSC Corps Marshall, Boboye Oyeyemi, had, at his budget defence, said a number of officers were attacked, kidnapped and killed on the roads by hoodlums.
Akinfolarin said his committee only agreed that a step be taken to end such occurrences.
“Our major concern as a committee is how to ensure the safety of every law abiding citizens on the roads, including security officials and that is why we chose to liaise with the office of the SGF and other relevant bodies through our subcommittee.
“The committee has not and will not mandate the corps to bear arms because it lacks such powers,” he emphasised
