Tragedy struck the family of Gombe State Commissioner for Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr Aishatu Umar Maigari, after three members of the family died in a ghastly car accident, last Saturday near Wudil town in Kano State.
The three brothers, Usman Umar Maigari, 30, Abdulkadir Umar Maigari 28, and Al’Amin Sani Abdulkadir, 31, were on their way to Kano from Gombe when their car had a head-on collision with a bus near Kademi town junction.
Two of the deceased, Usman and Abdulkadir, who shared the same mother, were children of Alhaji Umar Maigari, a one-time General Manager, Operations of the defunct Bank of the North Limited.
Late Al’Amin, who is their cousin was the son of Alhaji Sani Abdulkadir, a retired director with the Gombe State government.
One of the deceased’s elder brothers, Umar Farouk Maigari, said the three were returning to Kano when the accident occurred.
He said one of them was taken to a hospital in Gaya, while the two others were admitted at Wudil General Hospital, “unfortunately all of them died from the injuries they sustained,” he said.
It was gathered that a groom, who was in the other bus died on the spot while several passengers sustained injuries.
Late Usman, 30, studied Chemistry and worked with the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) in Kano, while late Abdulkadir studied Agricultural Engineering and held a Master of Engineering Management degree from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
He was into private practice and served as a director of his company, AMG Alpha Solutions and Services Limited.
The third deceased, Al’Amin Sani, 31, studied Geology and holds a Master of Science degree in Geo-Physics both from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria. He was a lecturer with the Kano University of Science and Technology, Wudil, Kano. He left behind a wife and a two-month-old daughter.
Their remains were buried according to Islamic rites at Tarauni cemetery in Kano on Saturday night.
“One thing they will all be remembered for is their obedience and respect for all and sundry irrespective of status. They also lived in strict compliance with Islamic rites in all their dealings,” Maigari said.
Meanwhile, Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State, has in a condolence letter expressed sadness over the deaths.
He lamented the unfortunate loss of these promising lives at a time the state is tapping into the vast potentials of its vibrant young men and women for the progress and development of the state.
