Hundreds of members of Kirfi community in Bauchi State are full of praise for their lawmaker, Abdulkadir Umar Dewu, who sponsored a medical outreach for them.

A 19-year-old appendicitis patient, who was on admission at Kirfi General Hospital, Saude Dalha, thanked the lawmaker, for initiating the programme from which she benefitted two months ago.

Narrating her ordeal before the surgery to newsmen in Kirfi, Saude said she had been battling with stomachache for more than three months, an ailment which many times affected her ability to move or carry out her usual chores but she is now healthy following the free surgery.

She said her parents are poor and could not afford to take her to a hospital and pay her bills.

Her mother, Mallama Sabuwa, said they could not raise the amount asked by the hospital before the introduction of the free surgery.

She said their hope of treating their daughter was rekindled when they heard that the lawmaker was sponsoring free surgery in his constituency.

Another patient, Amina Adamu, said the free surgery saved her life and that of her baby because she went through caesarean section  to deliver and was now recuperating in the hospital.

A community leader, Malam Ahmad Tijjani Abubakar Dewu, said the entire members of the community were happy with the initiative because it has helped many who are poor to get medical treatment

The Chief Medical Director of Kirfi General Hospital, Dr Usman Musa Usman, said since the inception of the free surgery programme four months ago, they have recorded over 200 people within the community who befitted.

He said they always got what are needed for the surgery from the lawmaker without any hitches and advised other politicians to emulate him.

The lawmaker, Abdulqadir Dewu, said he initiated the free surgery because of the health challenges he observed his communities were facing which due to lack of funds many could not treat.

Dewu said the projects was introduced after research and discussions with the stakeholders in the area.
