A Kaduna State High Court, on Thursday, adjourned the case of culpable homicide against Nehemiah Adejoh, the driver behind the wheel of the car that knocked down Nigeria’s first female combat helicopter pilot, Flying Officer Tolulope Arotile, in July to allow the defence counsel to bring in exhibits.
Adejoh, who was granted bail in the sum of N2 million on 12th October, 2020, is under trial on charges of culpable homicide not punishable by death.
At the resumed sitting on Thursday, Prosecution Counsel, Dari Bayero, urged the court to adjourn the matter in order to allow them retrieve evidence from the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) base for the purpose of the trial.
He said: “We have two witnesses in court but certain exhibits have not been transmitted from the air force base but there are officers to retrieve the evidence for the purpose of the trail.”
He then asked the court for a short adjournment to gather the exhibits and proceed on trial.
Counsel to Adejoh, James Ndam, did not object to the adjournment.
The presiding judge, Justice Darius Khodo, adjourned the matter to 8th December, 2020.
Daily Trust reports that flying officer Arotile was killed on July 14 after a Kia Sorento SUV allegedly driven by Nehimiah Adejoh knocked her down while reversing to exchange pleasantries with her.
Other occupants of the vehicle, Festus Gbayegun and Igbekele Folorunsho, have been discharged by a Kaduna magistrate court.
